How much does psychotherapy cost?

There are many elements that may contribute to the cost of psychotherapy, such as your specific insurance benefits and your financial situation. You should contact your insurance provider or check your insurance provider's online portal to inquire about any possible cost-shares associated with your particular plan.

In situations of financial hardship or if you do not have insurance, please reach out to discuss if you are eligible for a sliding-fee scale. Let us answer any questions about cost and payment over the phone during a free 15-minute consultation!

Getting Started

Consultations

In order to move from reading about therapy on a webpage to having your first session, we like to take some time to get to know you and inquire about your specific goals and expectations of therapy. The easiest way to do this is for us to schedule a 15-minute consultation via phone or telehealth video call. This is a service we provide at no cost to you with the understanding that it is not a therapy session but, rather, a way for us to get a sense of each other and how we may connect in a therapeutic relationship. We will ask about the general issues or topics that drive you to seek therapy at this time as well as the type or style of therapy you are looking for in order to make sure we would be a good fit for your needs. We will also go over insurance and payment information. Lastly, we will ask about your schedule so we can find a consistent time for weekly appointments that works for both parties. If we don't already have it, we will collect basic contact info and send you some paperless intake forms on our secure Client Portal.

Intake Paperwork

After our consultation, you will be sent intake paperwork using a secure HIPAA-compliant web portal. This will allow you to review practice policies, sign any needed consents for treatment and billing, and answer some background questions before getting started. We also ask that you upload a picture of the front and back of your insurance card if you are utilizing your insurance benefits. The beauty of completing your paperwork online before our first appointment is that we are able to spent our first session talking more in depth about your needs and getting to know one another rather than filling out paperwork!

Meeting Regularly

After our first session, you will be given the opportunity to decide if you would like to schedule another session to continue treatment. Some know after one session that it is a good fit, while others would like to meet a few times before making this decision. If you decide that you would benefit from a different therapist or style of therapy, we welcome the opportunity to provide referrals in order to help you find the right clinician. There is no shame in seeking out a different therapist or style of therapy that best meets your needs! Therapy is an investment in yourself, so finding a good fit in your therapist is crucial!

If moving forward with treatment, we typically require all new clients to be seen once-per-week unless there are extenuating circumstances that do not allow for weekly sessions. Regularly scheduled sessions are established for your benefit so you are able to work through issues as they arise and meet your goals in a timely manner.  We are also able to provide treatment more than once per week for more intensive treatment if needed.
